Why did we choose The Netherlands?
The DAFT Visa is one of the "easiest" and most cost effective visa options available to Americans as a pathway for living in Europe.
English Speaking
In The Netherlands, the primary language is Dutch; however the Dutch a very well educated and over 90% of the country speaks English as one of their several spoken languages.
Bike Culture
It is hard to imagine living in The Netherlands and not also think of bikes lined up along the canals. But bike culture here is more than that. It's a way of life. A way to connect with nature and avoid being trapped in a car, racing traffic for an hour or more each day. The entire country is built around biking infrastructure and encourages it as often as possible.
Location and Travel
The Netherlands is fairly centrally located in Europe so within a few hours plane or train ride you could be in another country altogether. France, England, Italy, Spain - all just a few hours away.
Slower Pace of Life
The Dutch take their work-life balance very seriously and get over 20 days of paid vacation per year plus sick days and holidays. We spend more time as a family here and have embraced the slower way of living.
Affordable Healthcare
Healthcare in America will bankrupt you. Here, although it is technically private health insurance and mandatory, everyone has access to it and it is made even more affordable with government subsidies if you qualify.
Education and Childcare
Education here is compulsory for every child over the age of 4 and is completely free. Childcare here is not free, but the government offers multiple programs and subsidies to help families afford childcare.
World Rankings
The Netherlands often ranks in at least the top 10 for safety, childhood happiness, quality of life, education, and healthcare in Europe and globally.
